Calga Livestock
The Calga Dohne Sheep Stud was established in 2002.
In December 2012, Bill Pye and his wife Margie purchased 742 special stud Dohne ewes at the Uardry dispersal sale at Hay along with the Uardry Dohne trademark. The Uardry Dohne Stud is run separately to the existing Calga Dohne Stud to ensure the Uardry type is preserved. The Uardry Dohne Stud continues with the same breeding objectives and management as before through the recruitment of key personal.
Looking to increase stud ewe numbers in 2017, Calga purchased 640 of the best ewes from DD Dohnes based at Moama, NSW when the Stud was up for dispersal in early 2017. Calga had already successfully introduced DD bloodline into the stud previously and the ewes would compliment the already established Calga and Uardry Dohne Studs.
The DD Stud along with the Uardry Dohne Stud are run as separate studs and follow the same breeding objectives and respective stud advisors and representatives have been retained.
With the combined ewe numbers of 2240 from the Calga Uardry & DD Studs, make the operation one of the biggest Dohne breeding flocks in Australia.
Calga joined the show circuit in 2014 to promote their Dohne product, offering Uardry rams for sale at Hamilton Sheepvention, Barcaldine Agtech, the Inaugural Swan Hill Production Sale and at the Coonamble Production Sale. Calga has continued to show case their product annually with rams offered rams for sale at their annual Coonamble Production Sale held in September and in October at their Southern Production Sale held at the their commercial property Caroonboon Station Wanganella NSW.
